The police recently launched a website called police.uk where you can get information about crime and policing at postcode level in any area in the UK. Have you visited this website? Is it something you would use if you were considering moving home? Do you think it’s a good idea to have this information available to everyone?
I've looked at this site. Purely because the area has changed in the 6 years we have been here and we would like to move in a year or two. The crime rate isn't particularly high but you can't help being concerned when you see that assaults and robberies have taken place in neighbouring roads. We also have problems with a well known Mental Hospital not far from here and unfairly the road where it is situated shows an unfair incidence of crime due the call outs to the hospital. Residents are not happy and I canot blame them.

It seems to me that any police statistics should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I wouldn't bother either. We have a monthly, local edition which reports crimes in our area..which is enough for me to maintain an awareness.

I suppose the info. would be useful if you were thinking of moving to an unfamiliar location, but when we think that its only in the last few years that Police Forces have removed speeding and traffic offences from their published criminal conviction statistics does suggest to me that the figures are not going to be accurate.

According to much of the reported views of serving police officers the info. given is a little "out" geographically. Which is apparently police speak for "in the wrong places" I don't think I'll bother with it.

From what I have read about this site it is generalised and not accurate.
