It has been suggested that May Day could be scrapped and replaced by St. George’s Day in April or Trafalgar Day in October. One reason for the suggested change is to get the tourist season off to an earlier start or (if it was changed to October) to keep the season going longer. Do you think May Day should be scrapped in favour of another day? Would you prefer a day off in April or October rather than the beginning of May?
I see that the leader of Hastings Borough Council wants the new bank holiday to be on 14th October and to be called Hastings day. What a stupid idea; why would any self respecting Englishman want to commemorate the day that Anglo-Saxon liberties were ground under the [chain-mailed] boot of Norman oppression.

May Day is a recent Bank Holiday introduced by Labour for political ideology, if one had to be abolished to be replaced by a holiday in autumn May Day should be the one to go. Better still retain the existing holdays and add an extra day to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar.

I always think of May Day being the real start of Summer and would like it to be kept.

I have returned from holiday MUCH sooner than I would have liked to and would suggest that Trafalgar Day is a much better choice. It will continually remind our "friends" across The English Channel who won.

Think a bank holiday in October would be a good idea. I'm the same as Christabel, doesn't make much difference to me. But that's because I'm retired. But when I was working would have been nice.

Bank holidays aren't really relevant to me as I generally work during them.Basically, they can move them wherever they want.

Instead of May Day being scrapped why can't they remove the Bank Holiday at the end of May. St George's Day is usually near Easter so that doesn't seem sensible. So the option of Trafalgar Day in October seems like a good one. Holidays are over, Christmas is coming so it would be nice to have a long weekend somewhere in between.

I don't mind an extra bank holiday to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar, I don't oppose St George's Day: but it could fall in Easter, as it does this year.

I'd be in favour of swapping to St Georges Day in April as it would help to restore a bit of National Identity.
